Why the golden ratio and not any other number? This paper provides the uniqueness proof for φ as the self-referential fixed point. Among all possible bases b for a self-referential partition 1 = b⁻¹ + b⁻², only one satisfies the partition with no free parameters: b = φ. Any other base requires a coefficient (a free parameter) to balance the equation. φ is the unique base for which self-reference achieves exact partition without external input. This is the deepest reason why the universe is built on five and not seven, on φ and not some other irrational.

\[ 1 = \varphi^{-1} + \varphi^{-2} \quad \text{unique parameter-free self-referential partition} \]
